Directed by Luc Besson this movie has sat at the top of my much watch list for years. I had know it had influenced some of my favourite action movies.
Fitzcarraldo (1982)
My first exposure to this will was buried deep in a book on film, Werner Herzog’s Fitzcarraldo standing in front of a ship being pulled over a mountain.
The Player (1992)
Down by Law (1986)
Revisiting Jim Jarmusch I decided to watch Down by Law noticing Tom Waits stars in the film.
A lecturer I once had when I studied film would use Jim Jarmusch’s Broken Flowers for every example of filmmaking in every lecture for an entire semester. This had an initial effect of making me reject the film and in turn reject Jarmusch. Cut to the end of the semester and I come back around to enjoying Jarmusch and appreciating the filmmakers film making of his films. The lecturer pointed out the visual reinforcement Jarmusch would utilise. When a character has to make a decision they will me standing at a literal crossroads for example.
How unsophisticated the start is compared to the end.
Black Panther (2018)
Marc Bernardan summed up my thoughts on the film when discussing it on Fatman on Batman. He loved the film but felt that T'Challa was the weakest part of the film. The problem was written into the character, he is the cool and calm when the other characters are often much louder than he. This isn't saying he was bad it is just saying the black panther wasn't the coolest part of black panther.
Glory (1989)
Directed by Edward Zwick.
